For the treatment of diabetes, the recommended dosage is the starting dose, but the treatment duration should not exceed a week. If you are concerned about your diabetes, it is advisable to take your dose at the first sign of your response, when you are most likely to have diabetes.
The most common side effects of Glucophage are:
Do not take Glucophage if you:
Active ingredient in Glucophage: Glucophage XR
Do not take Glucophage if you have had an allergic reaction to metformin, sulfonylurea, sulfonamides, or any other components in Glucophage.
Be careful with the dose of Glucophage if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or planning to have surgery.
The dosage of Glucophage should be based on the condition of the patient and the duration of treatment. For treating diabetes, the recommended dose is one day of treatment in advance. In general, a daily dose of one tablet is recommended.
Dosing schedule of Glucophage XR is as follows:
1. For the treatment of type 2 diabetes.
2. The patient should be given two daily doses to achieve the maximum effect. The maximum daily dose of one tablet is two tablets, taken on a daily basis. The patient should be instructed to take the dose at the first sign of his response. The patient is instructed to keep a healthy lifestyle and exercise regularly.
3.
The patient should be given one tablet of Glucophage daily and then, once a day, one daily dose.
For the treatment of diabetes mellitus. The patient should be given one tablet daily and then, once a day, one daily dose.
Glucophage XR is used with or without food as a diuretic. It is also used to prevent and treat severe oedematous disorders.
The dosage of Glucophage XR varies depending on the patient as he or she should be stable on Glucophage XR and on their health status. The initial dosage is usually 500 mg once daily. The dosage can be increased to a maximum dosage of 2000 mg/day. Before starting Glucophage XR, the doctor should check whether the patient has not been treated with or has recently had a stroke or heart attack or is on any type of diuretic. If so, the doctor should determine whether the patient has not been treated with or has recently had a blood clot. A severe oedema (swelling of the ankles/feet, difficulty with walking) has occurred which could indicate an oxygen-deficient patient. The doctor should also decide whether the patient has been treated with or has recently had a severe oedema.
The following interactions have been identified for Glucophage XR:
Bipolar disorder
Glucophage XR is contraindicated in patients with a history of BPD.
Cardiovascular disease
Glucophage XR may increase the risk of serious cardiac side effects (e.g., unstable angina, ventricular arrhythmias) in patients with a history of BPD. In addition, Glucophage XR may increase the risk of serious cardiovascular side effects (e.g., unstable angina, ventricular arrhythmias) in patients with a history of BPD. Therefore, Glucophage XR is also contraindicated in patients with a history of BPD.
Renal dysfunction
Glucophage XR may also lead to increased risk of nephrotoxic effects (e.g., hyperkalemia) in patients with a history of renal dysfunction. Therefore, the doctor should advise whether the patient is on dialysis and whether he or she should be treated with caution.
Renal insufficiency
Glucophage XR may also cause a decrease in renal blood flow, especially in patients with impaired renal function (e.g., patients who have not been treated with dialysis). Therefore, the doctor should assess whether Glucophage XR is causing the same effect as if the patient had not been treated with dialysis.
Severe hepatic impairment
Glucophage XR can increase the risk of severe hepatic impairment, especially in patients who are receiving dialysis. Therefore, the doctor should decide whether to increase the dosage of Glucophage XR depending on the severity of impairment and on the hepatic function of the patient.
Tardive dyskinesia
Glucophage XR can increase the risk of hyperkalemia (too much or too little potassium) in patients with tardive dyskinesia. Therefore, the doctor should decide whether to increase the dosage of Glucophage XR depending on the severity of dyskinesia and on the patient’s age, gender, race, and renal function.
Thyroid disorders
Glucophage XR can increase the risk of hyperthyroidism (too much or too little thyroid hormone) in patients with a history of thyroid disorders. Therefore, the doctor should decide whether to increase the dosage of Glucophage XR depending on the patient’s symptoms and on the thyroid hormone levels.
Blood disorders
Glucophage XR can increase the risk of serious blood disorders, including deep vein thrombosis (DVT). DVT has been reported in up to 10% of patients treated with Glucophage XR. In addition, this medication can cause an increase in the risk of serious cardiovascular side effects (e.g., hyperchlorelin drug syndrome, angina pectoris, ventricular arrhythmias). DVT is a condition in which the heart muscle does not contract and the blood gets trapped in the vessel, leading to discomfort, pain, and sometimes death.

Glucophage is an oral metformin that is indicated for the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and to improve glycemic control in type 2 diabetes mellitus patients. Metformin is a synthetic analog of the anti-diabetic drug,, and is widely used in clinical practice due to its effectiveness and tolerability. It is a semisynthetic drug with a molecular weight of approximately 5,000 Da and a molecular formula of C13H6. The active ingredient in metformin is glucagon. Metformin is available as a generic form and is prescribed in the United States and other countries in which it is indicated. In Canada, metformin is available as a generic equivalent and is approved as a glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonist.
Glucophage is available in several forms such as tablets, capsules, extended-release tablets, and injectable tablets. Metformin is the most common type 2 diabetes medication for patients with a high glycemic index (GI) or risk factors (such as,, and, respectively), including obesity, diabetes, and, and it is also used to treat or prevent type 2 diabetes in people with obesity (the type 2 diabetes is the type 2 diabetes mellitus). Metformin also is prescribed for patients with obesity to improve glycemic control.
The pharmacological action of metformin is mediated through its inhibitory action on pancreatic β-cells. It also affects the absorption of the glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor in the pancreas. Metformin has a lower affinity for the pancreatic CYP2D6 enzyme than the human CYP2D6 enzyme and thus is less likely to affect the metabolism of the drug in the liver. It is available in both oral and injectable forms.
In people with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), metformin is prescribed to improve glycemic control by increasing blood glucose levels. Metformin is available in two formulations:
